Live Baccarat Rules and Meaning

Live baccarat usually follows punto banco: the dealer runs two hands under compulsory drawing rules while players wager on the result. Each side starts with two cards. Aces count as one, cards two through nine keep face value, and tens plus picture cards count as zero. Only the final digit matters, so 7 + 8 equals 15 and produces a total of 5. A two-card 8 or 9 is a natural, which normally ends the deal. Otherwise, the Player draws on totals of 0–5 and stands on 6–7; the Banker’s third-card action then depends on its total and, when applicable, the Player’s third card. The dealer applies this tableau automatically. Streaming latency can affect when betting closes, but it cannot change the card rules or completed outcome.

The three main wagers are Player, Banker and Tie, and their payout does not equal their underlying probability. Across the standard eight-deck game, Banker wins about 45.86% of all hands, Player wins 44.62%, and 9.52% finish tied. Excluding ties, those win shares become 50.68% and 49.32%. A conventional Player win pays 1:1 and carries roughly a 1.24% house edge. Banker commonly pays 0.95:1 after 5% commission, producing about a 1.06% house edge. An 8:1 Tie payout has a much steeper 14.36% edge; 9:1 reduces it to about 4.85%. A tie normally pushes Player and Banker wagers. Side bets and commission-free tables use different mathematics, so Canadian players should inspect the displayed paytable and game rules before staking.
